The Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (hereinafter referred to as "STU") creates a generally accessible academic environment also by creating the relevant conditions for the study of students and applicants with special needs without reducing the requirements for their study performance and in accordance with the principles of equal treatment.
Students/applicants with special needs:
Pursuant to Section 100 (2) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll., on Higher Education and on amendments to some acts, as subsequently amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Act"), the following student shall be considered to be a student with special needs:
If they are
a) with
b) with chronic illness,
c) with weakened health,
d) with mental illness,
e) with autism or other pervasive developmental disorders,
f) with learning disorders.
Applicants with special needs:
If a part of the verification of abilities for study consists of the admission exam, an applicant with special needs shall be, at his/her request and based on the evaluation of his/her special needs, determined a form of the admission exam and method of taking it, taking regard of his/her special needs. The applicant with special needs shall deliver the request to modify the form and method of taking the admission exam, together with the written application for study.

Students with special needs:
Pursuant to Section 100 (4) of the Act, the student who agrees with the evaluation of his/her special needs is entitled to support services according to the extent and type of his/her special need, in particular:
a) ensuring the possibility of using specific education means,
b) individual education approaches, in
c) special conditions for
d) individual approach of university teachers,
e) remission tuition fees in justified cases if it concerns study longer than the standard length of the relevant study programme.
The details of the minimal requirements for the student with special needs for support services according to the type of the special need are stipulated in the Regulation of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research
A student with special needs who wants to use support services shall file the written request for inclusion in the records of students with special needs with the Study Department of the relevant faculty of STU or the Institute of Management of STU.

The coordinators for students with special needs (hereinafter referred to as the ”coordinator“); and the university coordinator operate at STU and a faculty coordinator operates within each faculty. The scope of authority of the coordinator for students with special needs at STU is regulated in the Rector’s Directive No. 5/2013-SR effective since 1 November 2013.
