Scholarships - information on scholarships for international students is provided by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.
Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava grants its regular students financial support in a form of scholarship. Granting the following kinds of financial support is not available for the mobility students.
STU provides students with the following types of scholarships:
1. Social scholarships from the state budget pursuant to Section 96 of the Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Universities and amending certain laws, as amended (hereinafter referred to as "Act")
Students of study programs of the first two degrees, residing in the Slovak Republic, have scholarships awarded based on meeting defined criteria. Social scholarships are awarded to reimburse the costs associated with the study. Students have the legal title for social scholarships. For more information see Article 2 of the Scholarship Regulations.
2. Maternity scholarship from the state budget pursuant to Section 96 of the Act available to any student that does not receive maternity benefits from the state. A request can be submitted 27 weeks before a due date, and is awarded monthly.
3. Incentive scholarships from the state budget (motivational scholarships) pursuant to Section 96a of the Act
STU may award the following incentive scholarships from the state budget to students:
a) in study programs defined in the methodology under Section 89 par. 8 of the Act based on analyses and forecasts of the labour market (hereinafter referred to as "Incentive Specialization Scholarships"), taking into account the study results of the previous study; in the case of a Student of the bachelor's program of study in the first year of study, the study results of the final year of study at a secondary school will be taken into account [96a par. 1 letter a) of the Act]. Criteria for awarding Incentive Specialization Scholarships are defined in Art. 4 of the Scholarship Regulations).
b) for outstanding performance study obligations, achieving outstanding performance in studies, research, development, artistic or sports activities [96a par. 1 letter b) of the Act]. Incentive scholarship can be awarded as follows:
b1) Incentive scholarships for outstanding study results; criteria for awarding incentive scholarship for excellent study results are given in Art. 5 of the Scholarship Regulations;
b2) Incentive scholarships for outstanding results; criteria for awarding incentive scholarship for excellent results are given in Art. 6 of the Scholarship Regulations.

4. Scholarships from own resources pursuant to Section 97 of the Act
If possible, STU awards its students and graduates in less than 90 days since the completion their studies with scholarships from its own resources, especially for the outstanding performance of study requirements, achieving excellent results in the field of study, research and development, artistic or sports activities, as a single or regular social allowance (Section 97 paragraph 1 of the Act). "Rector's Prize" - The special scholarship from own resources "Rector's Prize" is provided to graduates of bachelor, engineer/master or doctoral study programs at STU for the excellent performance of study obligations throughout their studies. It shall be provided from the rector's scholarship fund. For more information see Rector´s Directive "Rules for awarding the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava Rector´s Prize".
The Prize "Student of the Year" - The special scholarship from own resources "Student of the Year" is provided to students of bachelor, engineer/master or doctoral study programs at STU for outstanding results achieved in the preceding academic year on the occasion of the International Students Day (November 17). Student loans - From the scholarship fund from own resources, students of bachelor, engineer/master or doctoral degree study programs can be provided with a loan to cover the costs of study and to meet their social needs. For more information see Article 10 of the Scholarship Regulations.
Note:
The scholarship is awarded by the decision of the rector or dean, depending on the type of scholarship. The decision to award scholarships shall state the amount of the scholarship and the reasons why it is awarded. The decision to award a scholarship and the decision to provide or not a loan under this Scholarship Regulations is final, and no application for a review against it can be submitted. This does not apply for decisions on awarding a social scholarship under Article 2 of the Scholarship Regulations. All decisions must be made in writing on paper, and must be sent to Students by registered mail.
Doctoral Candidate (PhD Student) Scholarship
(1) The faculty provides Doctoral Candidates of full-time (FT) studies with scholarships. Any FT Doctoral Candidate with residence in a member state (member state of the European Union or states, which are the contractual parties of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation) is entitled (if he/she didn’t already pass a third degree university education) during the standard length of the study program, to which he/she has been admitted, without any third degree university education, to a scholarship:
a) till passing his/her dissertation examination, at least in the amount of salary class 9 and salary grade 1 under a particular regulation and
b) after passing his/her dissertation examination, at least in the amount of salary class 10 and salary grade 1 under a particular regulation.
(2) The scholarship of FT Doctoral Candidates shall be provided in accordance with paragraph 1 till the end of the month of study termination (Art. 22 or Art. 23 of the Study Regulations).
(3) If the standard length of the study program of the third degree is three academic years, FT Doctoral Candidates are entitled to receive a scholarship of 36 months; if the standard length of the study program of the third degree is four academic years, FT Doctoral Candidates are entitled to receive a scholarship of 48 months.
