Description:
The main purpose of the laboratory is research of multimedia applications oriented for use in transport. The laboratory is dedicated to research projects to the possibility of applying IT in transport and their usefulness and application in practice. Research conducted using specialized equipments which are specially developed for use in cars, buses, trains etc. The aim is to develop applications aimed at leveraging existing hardware, which will also bring new functionality to the user in that domain.. Technologies such as GPS, sensorsensoric system (based on Arduino), touch screens, dedicated servers for Transport etc. are currently available in the lab. With these technologies it is possible to work using various operating systems (FreeBSD, Windows 6.0, Windows XP Embedeed, Android 1.5 and later versions). The aim is to create useful applications for passengers, drivers or owners of means of transport. The laboratory was established as a result of cooperation with Molpir, Ltd. In the laboratory work also students who are also working on research projects such as the development of multimedia systems for trains, or at any of the projects mentioned in the Projects section.
Cooperation with business sector:
- Laboratory is fully supported by Molpir, Ltd. (Funtoro European Representative) – join laboratory. In the process of solving projects are also included consultations with Funtoro, inc.
- Ordering system for coaches. It has been developed to manage coaches, allowing passengers to order refreshments while travelling. The project was presented at the 2nd FUNTORO Europe Convention as Keynote.
- Multimedia system for taxi service. Project is focused on the customers of taxi services who have multimedia content for fun and also to check their journey at their disposal. Work has been deployed in real traffic Tick Tack, Ltd. in Prague (Czech Republic).
- Tourist guide. Project designed for travelers in a personal car, which displays nearby the GPS coordinates along with a connection to the Internet. The project has been used as a basis for software deployed in Vienna in sightseeing coaches with support for multiple language versions.
- Real-time tracking system. Web solution which communicates with specific hardware and it is suitable for real-time tracking of assets, vehicles and persons. Designed solution takes into account individual attributes of each group (i.e. there is logbook for vehicles). Nowadays, the project has been deployed in Czech and Slovak republic.
Projects:
- Application of embedded systems in automotive industry (VVSAP), grant to support young researchers at STU ((1/7/2011 - 31/3/2012).
