Emeritný profesor Vladimír Kvasnička dostal Medailu Jozefa Murgaša za celoživotný prínos k rozvoju informatiky, špeciálne umelej inteligencie. Pri príležitosti životného jubilea mu ju udelil dekan Fakulty informatiky a informačných technológií STU prof. Ivan Kotuliak. Ako prejav ocenenia za dlhodobú spoluprácu si profesor Kvasnička prevzal z rúk profesora Sinčáka aj Pamätnú medailu rektora TU v Košiciach.
Na slávnostnom udeľovaní medaily sa na FIIT STU zúčastnili aj dlhoroční kolegovia a spolupracovníci prof. Ing. Vladimíra Kvasničku, DrSc. – prof. Jiří Pospíchal z Fakulty prírodných vied UCM v Trnave, prof. Peter Sinčák z FEI TU v Košiciach a doc. Ladislav Hudec z FIIT STU v Bratislave. Vo svojich príhovoroch vyzdvihli prínos profesora Kvasničku najmä vo výskume a rozvoji použitia neurónových sietí, genetických a ďalších evolučných optimalizačných algoritmov, kognitívnej vedy a matematického modelovania chémie. Podelili sa o osobné skúsenosti pri spoluorganizovaní mnohých významných medzinárodných sympózií a konferencií zameraných na umelú inteligenciu. Slávnostného aktu sa zúčastnili aj Gabriel Galgóci, zakladajúci člen a predseda správnej rady Centra pre umelú inteligenciu (Aislovak IA) a Viera Bordoy, výkonná riaditeľka centra.
Profesor Kvasnička ukončil vysokoškolské štúdium v roku 1964 na Fakulte technickej a jadrovej fyziky Českého vysokého učení technického v Prahe v odbore jadrová a fyzikálna chémia. Dizertačnú prácu obhájil v roku 1968 na Heyrovského ústave Československej akadémie vied v Prahe vo vednom odbore chemická fyzika. V roku 1976 získal titul docent z chemickej fyziky, neskôr bol menovaný za profesora vo vednom odbore chemická fyzika.
V roku 1981 sa zúčastnil študijného pobytu v laboratóriu laureáta Nobelovej ceny prof. J. A. Pople na Carnegie-Mellon Univerzity v Pittsburghu. V roku 1988 bol vedúcim kolektívu, ktorému bola udelená štátna cena za práce z kvantovej teórie malých molekúl. Od roku 1973 pracoval na CHTF SVŠT (predchodkyni dnešnej FCHPT STU) a v roku 2004 prešiel na novovzniknutú FIIT STU, kde prednášal diskrétnu matematiku, logiku, neurónové siete, evolučné algoritmy a kognitívnu vedu.
Je autorom viac ako 200 pôvodných vedeckých prác, 10 knižných publikácií z oblasti umelej inteligencie, kognitívnej vedy a umelého života. Jeho práce získali značný ohlas (publikácia zverejnená v Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Science má viac ako 1100 citácií). Bol činný vo vedeckých radách, redakčných radách a odborných komisiách, v Slovenskej akademickej spoločnosti, Slovenskej informatickej spoločnosti a Slovenskej spoločnosti pre umelú inteligenciu, kde bol viac ako 20 rokov jej prezidentom, ďalej bol vedúci viacerých VEGA projektov a jedného APVV, vyškolil 12 doktorandov.
Získal významné medzinárodne ocenenie Chemical Structure Association Trust ‘94 Award (UK) za rozvoj aplikácií neurónových sietí v chémii.
