Rektor STU Oliver Moravčík udelil Plaketu Slovenskej technickej univerzity prof. Ing. Pavlovi Fellnerovi, DrSc. pri príležitosti životného jubilea a za významný prínos pre rozvoj STU v Bratislave. V stredu 21. septembra mu ju slávnostne odovzdal prorektor pre vedu a výskum Ján Híveš.
Profesor Fellner pracuje už takmer 60 rokov v základnom a aplikovanom výskume v oblasti anorganickej chémie, technológie a technickej elektrochémie. Dlhé roky pracoval na Ústave anorganickej chémie Slovenskej akadémie vied. Tam obhájil aj doktorskú dizertačnú prácu „Príspevok k teórii taveninových elektrolytov“.
V rokoch 1967 až 1968 absolvoval časť doktorandského štúdia na Nórskej technickej univerzite v Trondheime (dnes The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, najvýznamnejšia a svetovo uznávaná technická univerzita v Nórsku). V rokoch 1982 až 1984 získal Postdoctorate Fellowship na univerzite v Oslo a v rokoch 1991 až 1992 polročné štipendium (Senior Science Fellowship) opäť na univerzite v Trondheime.
Profesor Fellner pedagogicky pôsobil na Chemickotechnologickej fakulte SVŠT od roku 1985 ako externý pracovník. V tomto čase pracoval ako vedúci vedecký pracovník na ÚACh SAV. V roku 1986 sa stal vysokoškolským pedagogickým pracovníkom na CHTF SVŠT, v roku 1990 vedúcim Katedry anorganickej technológie a od roku 2006 bol riaditeľom Ústavu anorganickej chémie, technológie a materiálov na FCHPT STU až do roku 2014.
Na začiatku pôsobenia na FCHPT STU, v rámci svojho pedagogického profilu, nadviazal na svojho predchodcu prof. Malinovského ako člen známej Bratislavskej taveninovej školy. Priblížil študentom teoretickú fyzikálnu chémiu v praxi zavedením nového predmetu Aplikovaná termodynamika, ktorý sa s úspechom učí dodnes. Pre študentov v bakalárskom stupni spolu s kolegami pripravil vysokoškolskú učebnicu Anorganická technológia. Pripravil tiež celú sériu skrípt pre odbor anorganická technológia v oblastiach laboratórnych cvičení, fázových diagramov, klasickej a taveninovej elektrochémie a výroby hliníka. V pedagogickej práci sa ako dlhoročný predseda komisie pre doktorandské štúdium (spoločnej pre SAV a vysokú školu) zaslúžil o výchovu cca 20 doktorandov, z ktorých mnohí pracujú na ÚACh SAV.
V období 1992 až 1993 pracoval ako hosťujúci profesor v laboratóriách spoločnosti Comalco v Austrálii. Výrazne prispel aj k riešeniu aktuálnych problémov pri výrobe hliníka v Žiari nad Hronom, aj pri obmedzovaní negatívnych vplyvov na životné prostredie v okolí tejto prevádzky. Spolu s nórskymi kolegami je spoluautorom monografie „Aluminium Electrolysis.” 3-rd edition z roku 2001 vydanou vydavateľstvom Aluminium-Verlag, Dűsseldorf, Nemecko, ktorá bola v roku 2010 preložená do čínštiny a vydaná vydavateľstvom Metallurgical Industry Press, Bejing, Čína.
Profesor Fellner patrí medzi významné osobnosti z Bratislavskej taveninovej školy, ktorá bola celosvetovo uznávaná najmä pre vklad vedeckého poznania a výskumu do priemyselne veľmi dôležitého technologického procesu výroby hliníka. V tomto odvetví boli vtedy kvalifikované predpovede úprav výroby ekonomicky veľmi významnou pomocou výrobcom na celom svete. Vo svojej práci sa zaoberá chémiou a elektrochémiou tavenín. V tejto oblasti je autorom vyše 150 publikácií s dobrým citačným ohlasom, čo je v technologickej oblasti neobvyklé pre snahu nezverejňovať dôležité údaje.
V roku 2012 bola prof. Fellnerovi udelená Cena ministra školstva za vedu a techniku v kategórii Celoživotné zásluhy v oblasti vedy a techniky. V tom istom roku bol zaradený medzi významné osobnosti SAV.
