Študentskou osobnosťou Slovenska akademického roka 2016/17 sa stal Tomáš Fabšič z Fakulty elektrotechniky a informatiky STU v Bratislave. Venuje sa bezpečnosti šifier po nástupe kvantových počítačov.
„Venujem sa šifrovaniu, čiže prenosu dát bezpečným spôsobom. Vo fyzike sa dejú veľké pokroky vo vývoji kvantového počítača a ten by bol schopný ,lámať šifry, ktoré sa používajú v súčasnosti. Do budúcnosti preto potrebujeme mať pripravené šifry, ktoré sú odolné voči takému počítaču. Prebieha medzinárodná súťaž, ktorú vyhlásil americký inštitút pre štandardy a technológiu. Jej cieľom je vytvoriť nový šifrovací štandard, ktorý by ľudia mohli používať v budúcnosti, keď už budú k dispozícii kvantové počítače. Podľa odhadov by ich vlády alebo veľké agentúry mali byť schopné zostaviť už do 20 rokov. Je dôležité, aby sme na to boli vopred pripravení," povedal absolútny víťaz súťaže Tomáš Fabšič počas slávnostného vyhlásenia výsledkov súťaže pre denník Pravda.
Súťaž Študentská osobnosť roka organizuje každoročne organizácia Junior Chamber International - Slovakia. Aktuálne študentské osobnosti akademického roka 2016/17 zverejnila na slávnostnom podujatí v stredu 13. decembra 2017. Organizácia zverejňuje víťaza v jednotlivých odborných kategóriach a tiež celkového víťaza. V kategórii stavebníctvo a architektúra sa víťazkou stala Martina Majorošová, študentka 4. ročníka tretieho stupňa študijného programu krajinárstvo na Stavebnej fakulte STU v Bratislave.
V kategórii šport zvíťazil Ján Volko, študent št. programu informačné technológie na FIIT STU a aktuálny slovenský rekordér v šprinte na 60, 100, 150 aj 200 metrov.

Mgr. Tomáš Fabšič, Fakulta elektrotechniky a informatiky STU v Bratislave :
Mgr. Tomáš Fabšič absolvoval bakalárske štúdium v odbore matematika na University of Warwick vo Veľkej Británii. Počas štúdia na University of Warwick získal niekoľko ocenení za vynikajúce akademické výsledky. Následne získal vysoko prestížne štipendium Gates Cambridge Scholarship od Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation na štúdium kurzu Master of Advanced Study in Mathematics na University of Cambridge.
Po štúdiu na University of Cambridge sa Mgr. Fabšič vrátil na Slovensko. Na FEI STU študuje pod vedením prof. RNDr. Otokara Grošeka, PhD. a venuje sa post-kvantovej kryptografii. Post-kvantová kryptografia sa zaoberá návrhom a analýzou kryptografických systémov odolných voči útokom pomocou kvantového počítača. Existencia výkonných kvantových počítačov by totiž znamenala, že v súčasnosti používané asymetrické kryptosystémy (napr. RSA) by už neboli bezpečné a bolo by potrebné ich nahradiť novými bezpečnými kryptosystémami. Kvôli pokroku vo vývoji kvantových počítačov je návrh bezpečných post-kvantových kryptosystémov čoraz urgentnejším vedeckým problémom.
V roku 2016 zvládli Mgr. Fabšič spolu s Ing. Ondrejom Gallom, PhD. technológiu akustických kryptografických útokov. Jedná sa o technológiu nedávno vyvinutú v Izraeli, ktorá umožňuje na základe merania zvuku laptopu alebo stolového počítača počas vykonávania kryptografickej operácie určiť hodnotu tajného kľúča. Odvtedy prezentovali Mgr. Fabšič s Dr. Gallom túto technológiu na viacerých medzinárodných konferenciách (CECC 2016, CryptArchi 2017). V októbri 2016 prezentovali Mgr. Fabšič a Dr. Gallo technológiu akustických kryptografických útokov na Worcester Polytechnic Institute v USA. V súčasnosti je Tomáš členom riešiteľského kolektívu nového grantu NATO pod názvom Quantum-safe Authenticated Group Key Establishment.
